The Gemco Players original short play festival Little Gems is an annual writers’ festival of short scripts intended to provide a forum to promote and encourage experienced writers, new writers and young writers to practice and further their craft of writing for the stage. Gemco Players invites submissions from writers of stage drama for its 2011 publication and performance of Little Gems short plays.

Plays can be of any length up to 10 minutes with up to four actors and no restrictions on theme or genre.

Submissions are open from August 2010 until January 2011. In April 2011. Twenty short listed submissions will be given a rehearsed reading at the Gem theatre and from them 10 plays will be selected for publication and performance. The ten selected plays will be announced in May 2011.

Conditions of submission

• Entrants must be of amateur status.
• Any play longer than 10 minutes will be automatically rejected.
• Plays submitted must not have been previously performed or published
• Author's name must be on the front page only.
• Entries will be accepted only if submitted with the official entry form.
• The entry fee must accompany the entry form.
• Entry fee will be $5
• A limit of three entries per author.
• Submissions for the next season close on 31 January.
• Short list of 20 plays will be selected in April.
• During April there will be a rehearsed reading of the short listed plays and an audience will be invited. This will enable the adjudicators to see the plays and begin their assessments.
• The final 10 plays will be selected in May.
• Successful writers will be published by Gemco and performed on condition that they permit their work to be published and performed, at the current festival, without permissions fees or royalties asked for.
• Publication by Gemco Players does not forgo the right of the author to subsequently publish elsewhere.
• All writers will retain their copyright.
