In 1914 the ETU in Victoria had 812 members. In 1915 there were 1068 members. In 1916 there were 1248 members. In 1917 there were 1218. In 1918 the membership had been reduced to 974. |
Of those members between 1914-18, 157 have so far been identified as having gone to war. 26 were never to come back: they were either killed in action or died of wounds or gas poisoning. Five were buried where they fell in unmarked graves; that is, the shell holes they were in, graves quickly dug by their mates before retreat or in mass graves dug at the time to clear the front line of the dead before advancement or retreat. |
